Rosie’s Theater Kids (RTKids) is an arts education organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children through the arts. We serve students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to experience theater, positively changing the trajectory of their lives by providing comprehensive classes in music, dance, and drama; thoughtful mentoring; and structured academic guidance.

Our goal is to inspire excellence, motivate learning, uplift the human spirit, build confidence, and spark a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

The mission of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project is to help young people become avid and skilled readers, writers, and inquirers. We accomplish this goal through research, curriculum development, and through working shoulder-to-shoulder with students, teachers, and school leaders. The organization has developed state-of-the-art tools and methods for teaching reading and writing, for using performance assessments and learning progressions to accelerate progress, and for literacy-rich content-area instruction. A TC staff developer visits and works with K-5 teachers ten times during the school year, meeting with grade level teams and supporting a lab site visit on each grade level. This tool is designed to monitor student growth with software for innovative assessment, curriculum planning, and benchmark assessments.

LINC

Literacy Inc.’s mission is to engage families and community members to support young readers in high-need neighborhoods. They harness the power that exists in every community to make literacy a value and a right of all children. LINC’S comprehensive Literacy model (CLM) makes connections between students, families and schools around improving reading behaviors and communications about age-appropriate literacy expectations and skills. Four interlocking strategies provide a scaffolding of support:

  • LINC increases in and out-of-school-time opportunities for students and families to practice essential literacy skills and model positive reading behaviors
  • LINC demonstrates to parents how to create a literacy-rich home environment and engage with the school around their child’s literacy development
  • LINC partners with teachers and administration to provide training and tools that build the capacity of schools to work with parents as allies
  • LINC organizes the community, through parent leadership training and collaborations with neighborhood-based organizations, to grow and sustain a culture that supports reading achievement for all children through coordinated enrichment opportunities. ( Pre-K, 2 nd and 5 th Grade)

The Community Arts Partnerships program tailors residency content for each school, providing custom-designed programs that embrace Ballet Hispanico’s pedagogical standards, goals, and philosophy, and matches each school with an outstanding teaching artist who is invested in developing our community’s cultural and educational talents. Our program draws from the New York City Department of Education’s Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts: Dance Grades PreK-12, addressing five strands of Learning in Dance: Dance making, Developing Dance Literacy, making connections, working with community and cultural resources and exploring Careers and lifelong learning. The residency itself consists of weekly lessons during the fall or spring terms, which include a curriculum integration project (e.g. writing, drawing), usually presented during the culminating performance by the students engaged in our program.
